Trek 500 takes its name from the challenge at its heart: over 500 miles of Scotland’s most breathtaking and unforgiving landscape, walked to raise funds to support crucial research into treatment of one of the UK’s most diagnosed cancers.
The Scottish National Trail runs from Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders to Cape Wrath in Sutherland. It is widely regarded as Britain’s toughest, most varied and most beautiful long-distance backpacking challenge. The route passes through the Southern Uplands, the Pentland Hills, the Trossachs, the Cairngorms and the far north-west Highlands. Country that compares with the best long-distance routes in the world.
Campbell Roy will complete the trail across 43 stages between July and September 2026, taking on over 537 miles of terrain that ranges from gentle river valleys to remote mountain passes and exposed moorland.
Campbell welcomes walkers to join him on any stage they choose. Whether you walk one day or several, your participation (and your fundraising) makes a difference.
Full route maps with timings, meeting points, rest stops and finish locations will be sent to everyone who registers.
* Please note that only those with appropriate experience and knowledge should consider joining Campbell on these days.
Trek 500 was launched at the Falkirk Wheel on 28 May 2026, with backing from Prostate Cancer Research and an endorsement from Sir Chris Hoy. Several businesses have already stepped forward as stage sponsors, including Bullet Express, Euro Commercials and Culina Group.
The challenge has the support of Prostate Scotland, Scottish Canals, Walking Scotland, the Scottish Rally Championship and the Association of Scottish Motorsport Clubs.
Every pound you give funds vital prostate cancer research, from laboratory equipment to pioneering clinical trials.
You don’t need to be an experienced hiker. Pick a stage, bring good boots and a good spirit, and walk alongside Campbell.
